Description

🏆 The 3rd Annual Pickleball Charleston Cup 🏆

The DOUBLES and TEAM events are "stand alone" event, therefore you can play in one without playing in the other. To be eligible for the CUP, you have to play in the TEAM event. To give yourself the best chance to win the CUP, all four teammates should play doubles too.

Get ready for one of the most exciting pickleball weekends of the year!
This unique event lets you grab 3 friends to form a team of 4 (Teams are either all male or all female). Here’s how it works:

• Saturday: Doubles Event All Ages and 50+ (Men's and Women's Divisions Only, no Mixed)

• Sunday: Team Event (Men's and Women's Divisions Only, no Mixed) – 4 person teams (MiLP style only teams are all one gender) and you play matches against other teams in your division. A match consists of 4 doubles games (Team Captains decide the lineup and each player will play 2 games in a match), the team that wins the most games wins the match. If both teams win 2 games, then a 5th doubles game will be played to determine the winner.

Earn points for your team on Saturday based on how you finish in each division. Then as a team earn more points on Sunday, and the Team with the most points takes home the CASH 💰 and gets their name engraved on the Cup!

👉 The best part? You choose how you want to play:
1. Doubles Only
2. Team Event Only
3. Both Doubles + Team Event – for your shot at the CASH and the Cup!

Don’t miss your chance to be part of Pickleball Charleston history.

Format Details:
Once a player registers, their rating is “locked” and their DUPR increasing or decreasing will not impact their team’s aggregate or division placement. To be eligible for the Championship Cup Prize Money, all 4 players have to have an established rating in DUPR. Your rating must include games from a tournament/league within the last 6 months or a rating provided by a certified DUPR Coach.

TEAM FORMAT:
Pickleball Charleston's team competition is where teams of 4 players compete against other teams in a unique format.

Matches are composed of four games, with each player participating in two games (players can NOT have the same partner twice in one match). The matchups will be determined by the Team Captains. If both teams are tied at 2-2 after the 4 games are played, they’ll go to a tiebreaker.

Tie Breaker: A doubles game to 11 win by 1. The Team Captains will select the matchup, then when one team has scored 6 points the other four players finish the game. Ex: Team 1 Player A & Player C vs Team 2 Player B & Player C to start, and when one team has scored 6 points the teams switch ends and players. The rest of the game will be Team 1 B & D vs Team 2 A & D. (Tie breaker is NOT recorded in DUPR)

Scoring: Standard Scoring

DOUBLES FORMAT:
When deciding which bracket to register for, combine you and your partner’s rating. If your rating total is under 7, then you register for DUPR 7. Example: Your rating is 3.65 and your partner’s rating is 3.3 your team rating is 6.95. Therefore, you register for DUPR 7.

To be eligible for the Championship Cup Prize Money, both players have to have an established rating in DUPR. Your rating must include games from a tournament/league within the last 6 months or a rating provided by a certified DUPR Coach.

Round Robin into bracket. All teams are scheduled for a minimum of 5 games. All scores will be entered into DUPR. The bracket size will determine if it will be single or double elimination.

Scoring Format: Standard Scoring

Round Robin: Number of games will be determined by the number of teams in your Pool.

Bracket: Matches consist of one game 15 (win by 2) format.

Teams will be placed into pools based on their team rating (combine you and your partner’s rating). If you do NOT have a DUPR rating you will be given a rating in our tournament software based identical to your partner’s rating (one player is required to have a rating).

Rules

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP CUP FORMAT:
Earn points for your team by participating in the gender doubles portion of the event. You do NOT have to play doubles with a member of your team. To give your team the best chance to win the Championship Cup, all four members should participate in doubles.

Points are awarded to each player based on final standing for each bracket you enter (max of 1 bracket.)

1. Register for one Gender doubles bracket -
a) Senior Gender Doubles - Saturday, November 15th
b) All age Gender Doubles - Saturday, November 16th

2. Create a team (4 Males or 4 Females) and register for the Team Event.
The higher you finish in your bracket, the more points you will receive.

The Championship Cup will be awarded to the overall highest point scoring DUPR team across all Open Age brackets and the highest point scoring DUPR team across all 50+ Age brackets. The prize purse will be split (*$1,000 each team) between both winners. Therefore, there will be One Winner for All Ages and One Winner for 50+.

*A minimum of 10 teams in each age bracket is required; otherwise, prize money may be reduced accordingly.
State Championship Cup Points:
1st = 20 pts
2nd = 16 pts
3rd = 14 pts
4th = 12 pts
5th = 10 pts
6th = 8 pts
7th = 6 pts
8th = 4 pts
9th = 2 pts
10th or lower = 1 pt

EX: If one doubles team finishes 1st (20 per person), the other finishes 5th (10 points per person), and the Team finishes 3rd (14 points per person), your team would have accumulated 116 total points.

The Team with the most points overall is the winner. Tiebreaker order: 1. The team with the most gold medals (team gold counts as 4 golds). 2. The team with the most Silver and Gold medals. 3. Total medals. 4. The team with the highest “Average Point Differential” during the Round Robin portion of the Team Event. 5. Coin Flip.
