Rules

Big Pickl Events Pickleball Tournament Rules
At Big Pickl Events, hosted by Keystone Hoops Group LLC, we are committed to providing a fair, fun, and competitive environment for all participants. The following rules apply to all pickleball tournaments organized by Big Pickl Events, using Selkirk pickleball balls.

1. General Tournament Format
a. Divisions:
Tournaments may include multiple divisions based on skill level. Participants must register in the appropriate division.

b. Match Format:

Matches will be played to 15 points (win by 2) stopped at 21 regardless of win margin.
c. Ball Specification:
All matches will be played using Selkirk pickleball balls, as designated by the Organizer. Players may not use balls from other manufacturers during matches.
2. Court Rules
a. Court Dimensions:
Matches will be played on courts that meet official USA Pickleball Association (USAPA) standards (20' x 44').

b. Net Height:
The net shall be set at the standard height of 36 inches at the sidelines and 34 inches at the center.

c. Boundaries:
All lines on the court are considered in play, including the baseline, sidelines, and kitchen lines.

3. Serving Rules
a. Legal Serve:

Serves must be made underhand with the paddle contacting the ball below the waist.
The serve must clear the net and land in the diagonal service court.
Players are allowed only one serve attempt, unless the ball touches the net and lands in the correct service court (let serve).
b. Sequence of Serve:

In doubles, both players on a team will serve before the serve is turned over to the opposing team, except at the start of each game, where only one player serves.

4. Scoring
a.
Points can only be scored by the serving team. Matches will follow traditional rally scoring rules unless otherwise specified.

b. Win Condition:

A team must reach the designated point total ( 15 points, depending on the game) and win by at least 2 points.
In case of a tied score 14-14 , play continues until one team achieves a 2-point lead or stop with first team reaching 21 points regardless of win margin.
5. Faults
Faults result in the loss of a serve or a point for the offending team. Examples include:

Serving the ball out of bounds or into the net.
Volleying the ball while standing in the non-volley zone (kitchen) or stepping into the kitchen after hitting a volley.
Hitting the ball out of bounds.
6. Time-Outs
a. Number of Time-Outs:
Each team is allowed two 1-minute time-outs per game.

b. Injury Time-Outs:
An additional injury time-out may be granted at the discretion of the tournament referee.

7. Player Conduct
a. Sportsmanship:
All participants are expected to conduct themselves respectfully toward referees, opponents, and spectators. Unsportsmanlike behavior, including excessive arguing, profanity, or intentional disruption of play, may result in penalties or disqualification.

b. Equipment and Attire:

Players must use equipment that complies with USAPA standards.
Proper athletic attire, including non-marking court shoes, is required.
8. Referees and Disputes
a. Referees:
Matches will be officiated by trained referees where available. Referees’ decisions are final.

b. Player Responsibility:
Players are responsible for making honest line calls when referees are not available. Disputes must be resolved promptly and respectfully.

c. Appeals:
Appeals to referee decisions may be submitted to the Tournament Director, whose ruling will be final.

9. Weather Policy
a. Outdoor Events:
In case of inclement weather, matches may be delayed, rescheduled, or moved indoors (if possible). Refunds will not be issued due to weather-related delays or cancellations.
