Beachin’ with Beale ~ 1st Annual Mike Beale Memorial Pickleball Tournament

About the Tournament

Join us in celebrating the life of our dear friend, Mike Beale, who passed away on April 10th, 2024. Mike was an avid pickleball player, surfer, golfer, and star of the sports radio segment “Beachin’ with Beale” on the Varsity Sports radio show. In his honor, we’re hosting a charity pickleball tournament, with all proceeds sponsoring an OCC broadcast journalism student’s internship for a full school year, reflecting Mike’s passion for education.

Event Details

Date: Saturday, July 27th
Time: 11AM to 3PM (Please arrive by 10:30AM to get checked in.)

Format: Round Robin with set partners
Divisions (Subject to change based on entries):
– Open Doubles 2.5 to 2.99 (combined DUPR rating below 6.0)
– Open Doubles 3.0 to 3.49 (combined DUPR rating below 7.0)
– Open Doubles 3.5 and up (combined DUPR rating below 8.0)

Theme: Luau/Beach (please wear Hawaiian/Beach/Surf attire suitable for pickleball; no flip-flops while playing)

Join us for a day of fun, competition, and community! Enjoy pickleball, music, food, beverages, and surprises while supporting a great cause. Invite your friends and family to watch and participate in the festivities.

About the Charity

One well-deserving OCC (Orange Coast College) Broadcast Journalism Student will be chosen to receive a year-long paid internship with the Varsity Sports Show. All proceeds from this event will sponsor this internship.
