Description
2025 Pickleball Association of Bermuda National Championships
A PAB Sanctioned Event for all members.
The PAB is excited to open registrations for the 2025 National Championships at WER Joell Tennis Stadium from Monday, 24 November - Saturday, 29th November.
To more closely align with international competition formats, the PAB will offer two (2) age-based divisions for the 2025 National Championships:
-Open (no age restrictions)
-Senior (50+) minimum age is 50 years old as of the tournament calendar year
For doubles events, the division is determined by the age of the youngest team member.
Any player may compete in the Open divisions, but players under 50 years of age as of the end of the calendar year cannot “play up” into +50 divisions.
In the event that there are less than for (4) teams or players for either age division, the age divisions will be collapsed into one set of pools.
Elite+ Divisions - minimum team DUPR requirements:
Men’s Doubles 4.5+ (Open) = minimum team DUPR average of 4.25 or total DUPR of 8.5
Mixed Doubles 4.5+ (Open) = minimum team DUPR average of 4.0 or total DUPR of 8.0
Players may only register for one division—either by skill level or age category—in each event: Mixed Doubles, Gender Doubles, and Singles. For example, a player cannot enter both the 3.5 Mixed Doubles and 3.0 Mixed Doubles divisions. Additionally, a player may not register for both 3.5 Mixed Doubles (Open) and 3.5 Mixed Doubles (Age 50+) during the same event.
Events are structured to ensure appropriate competition and development opportunities across skill levels. Players whose DUPR ratings marginally exceed the division threshold (by no more than 0.02 points) may be permitted to participate at the tournament director's discretion, so long as the team's average rating is below the division's maximum rating. This allowance provides reasonable flexibility while maintaining competitive integrity.
Players whose DUPR ratings are significantly below the division threshold may NOT be permitted to participate at the tournament director's discretion. Participants will earn additional national pickleball championship ranking points (+50%) based on performance in this tournament.

Experience World-Class Competition
This year’s Championships have been designed to align with international standards, with two divisions available: the Open Division and the Senior (50+) Division. Should either division attract fewer than four teams or players, divisions will be combined to ensure dynamic and competitive play for all participants.
Building Community Through Sport
The National Championships represent more than just a competition—they are an opportunity to showcase a vibrant, inclusive, and connected pickleball community that reflects Bermuda’s culture of health, social engagement, and sporting excellence. The PAB is proud to lead the growth of pickleball locally, supported by a strong strategic vision to elevate the level of play, expand participation among youth and seniors, and create long-term opportunities for player development and international engagement.
Whether you are a returning competitor, a first-time participant, or simply a fan of the sport, your involvement helps strengthen Bermuda’s place as an emerging hub for pickleball in the Caribbean and beyond. We invite everyone to become part of this fast-growing community, celebrate athletic achievement, and help set the stage for future champions.

Rules
2025 OFFICIAL PICKLEBALL ASSOCIATION OF BERMUDA FORMAT & RULES
INTRODUCTION
Given Bermuda’s current limitation of courts, the PAB has structured tournament play to maximize participation while operating within time and court availability constraints. This format emphasizes rewarding strong round robin performance with enhanced competition opportunities in the medal rounds.
TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE
Division Organization
• Divisions with fewer than 6 players/teams will compete in a single pool round robin.
• Divisions of 6 or more will be split into multiple pools, each containing no more than 5 teams.
• Pool seeding based on reliable DUPR ratings (>=60%) or committee discretion where reliable DUPRs unavailable
Pool/Round Robin Phase
• All teams will play round robin matches against every other team in their pool.
• Match Format: Regular scoring games to 11 points, win by 1 point.
• Side change occurs at 6 points.
• Timeouts: One 1-minute timeout per team per match.
Pool Tiebreaking Procedures
In case of a tie in pool standings, the following tiebreakers will be applied in order:
1. Win/loss record
2. Head-to-head results
3. Point differential (points scored minus points allowed) in all matches
Medal Round Qualification
For divisions with 3 or fewer teams: Only a final match will be played.
For divisions with 4 or 5 teams in a single pool: Tournament Director will determine advancement structure based on total entries, to be announced before play begins.
For divisions with two pools: Top 2 teams from each pool advance to medal rounds.
For divisions with three or more pools: Tournament Director will determine advancement structure based on total entries, to be announced before play begins.
Medal Round Format

Finals: Winners of semi-finals play for Gold/Silver; losers of semi-finals play for Bronze.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Courts 5-8 Hindrance Rules
Courts 5-8 have special hindrance rules due to the proximity of their walls/fences:

• The hindrance must be called immediately at the time it occurs.
• If a valid hindrance is called, the point shall be replayed.
• Contact with the wall/fence during the forward swing or follow-through does NOT constitute a hindrance.
• This rule adapts USA Pickleball Rule 7.N on hindrances, which states: "A hindrance may result in the replay of a rally. If possible, all players should stop play when a hindrance occurs."
Time Management
• Teams must be ready to play when their match is called.
• 5-minute grace period, after which the match may be forfeited.
